The Pier House
The pick for a proper meal with a view: beautiful outlooks over the bay and a menu that leans on local produce and seafood. Booking is recommended, though there are usually first-come, first-served tables in the bar area if you fancy being spontaneous.
Atlantic Bay Fish & Chips
A proper seaside chippy right in the village. Grab a portion to take down to the seafront and eat looking out at Pebble Ridge: the definitive Westward Ho! evening.
Rock Pool Cafe
An enormous menu covering all-day breakfasts, lunches and desserts. A reliable, family-friendly choice whether you're after a full fry-up or just coffee and cake.
Fairway Buoy
A pub right by the beach, serving drinks, cakes and a warm welcome with the waves in view. In summer there's an outdoor pizza place too: hard to beat on a golden evening.
Bessys Bakery
Sandwiches, cakes and fresh pastries on Nelson Road: perfect for grabbing lunch to take out on a walk, or a treat to bring back to the house with a pot of tea.
Morans Thai Restaurant
A firm local favourite on Golf Links Road, and a great change of pace from seaside classics. Worth booking ahead in the busier months.
Opening days, hours and menus vary through the year, so it's always worth a quick check or a call ahead, especially out of season.
A little further afield
When you fancy a change of scene, two charming harbour towns are a short drive or a Tarka Trail cycle away, both with independent cafes, pubs and fish and chips by the water.
Appledore
A pretty fishing village of narrow streets and pastel cottages, with independent cafes, delis, pubs and ice cream along the quay. Lovely for a lazy lunch and a wander.
Bideford
The historic port town just up the estuary, with riverside pubs and restaurants, cafes, and the pannier market for a bite between browsing. A handy option on a wet day, too.
A night in is easy here too
Sometimes the best table is your own. The kitchen is fully equipped for everything from a quick pasta to a proper Sunday roast.
For stocking up, the village has a Tesco Express, Spar and Londis for day-to-day essentials, with larger supermarkets a short drive away in Bideford or Barnstaple. Pick up fish from the chippy, a bottle from the shop, and settle in: with the beach on your doorstep, a quiet evening at the house is no hardship at all.
